I recently encountered an issue launching the Sales Order Entry screen from a workstation as a domain user on a test upgrade of Dynamics SL for a customer.

The customer is running SL 7.0 FP1/SP3 on a Windows Server 2003 SP2 with the client on Windows 7 Professional workstation.  When they login into the server as a domain admin they are able to run SL without issue. When they login into the workstation as a domain admin they are able to run SL without issue.  When they login as a normal domain user who has been granted full control of the share and full permissions they are not able to load the Sales Order Entry screen.  Instead they receive a generic application error indicating the program has stopped working.

We loaded Process Monitor onto the workstation and ran a trace while launching the Sales Order Entry screen and found the Operation QuerySecurityFile returned the result of Access Denied on the 4010000.exe.

After much searching I found on a private partner forum a resolution that Microsoft had delivered for a similar issue.

grant exec on getauthenticationtype to [public]   (run against the SL system db)

We ran the script against the SL system database and the issue was resolved.  I hope this post saves some others time in resolving this type of issue.
