Service Pack 3 for Dynamics SL 7.0 FP1

On April 16, 2010 Microsoft released Service Pack 3 for Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 and I for one am very excited.  This service pack included many needed hot fixes as well as some enhancements that make this services pack worth looking at for most organizations.

Enhancements

Quick Send – Many improvements have been introduced to Quick Send which automates the delivery of select reports in Microsoft Dynamics SL via fax and/or email.  The following is a listing of a few of the many enhancements.

Doc Share – Introduced as part of SL 7.0, Doc Share automates the delivery/publishing of selection Microsoft Dynamics SL report to a SharePoint site.  Several enhancements to the Doc Share in SP3 enhance this functionality.  I have listed a few of the many enhancements below.

Doc Share SDK – the evloution continues with the introduction of the Doc Share SDK.  The Software Development Kit (SDK) will help you:

Government Contractor Reports – We have blogged about the addition of Government Contractor Reports previously.  The new reports are now part of SP3 rather than an optional hot fix.  If you are a Government Contractor these are must have reports. Click Here for more information.

Installation Notes

There has been some confusion around what version of Microsoft Dynamics SL you must be running in order to upgrade to SP3.  The answer is that you must install Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 FP1 before you install SP3.  The service pack builds on the FP1 installation.  You do not need to upgrade your databases to FP1.  You can skip this step and run the Database Maintenance process to upgrade directly to SP3.

If you usually look at the GLSetup.S4Future01 field to determine your version you may be interested to know that this field no longer contains the Microsoft Dynamics SL version information.

To get version information open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and select your system database.  Execute the following statement:  GetVersion

You can download the service pack from Microsoft Customer Source using the link on the lower right hand side of our blog page labeled Customer Source.
