With the release of Microsoft Dynamics SL 8.0 in Q1 of 2011, Microsoft has indicated that Management Reporter, the replacement for FRx, will be released.  Customers will not be required to migrate to Management Reporter with the release of SL 8.0 but it is expected that over the next several years support for FRx will end.

FRx reports (catalogs and building blocks) can be converted to Management Reporter via a built in conversion utility.  We highly recommend you make plans to clean up your existing spec sets (report catalogs) prior to conversion.  If you need assistance with the clean up then contact us for assistance at acumaticasupport@swktech.com.

The Dynamics Corporate Performance Management (CPM) blog offers regular updates on Management Reporter product changes and is a good source for general information on Management Reporter.

One blog article in particular may help put users at ease with the transition is, “If you like FRx, you’ll love Management Reporter”.  The article includes some screen shots of Management Reporter.

From a technical perspective, Management Reporter provides many improvements over what is an aging FRx code base (20+ years old).  Management Reporter is a complete re-write using .Net and includes the following features.

  • 64 bit Support
  • SQL Server support (no more MS Access databases)
  • Server side processing (no more client side processing)
  • and much more…

For a comparison between the FRx and Management Reporter user interface, I would suggest looking at the FRxBuzz blog article, “Shootout: An FRx and Management Reporter Comparison”.

Check back for updates on Management Reporter and Microsoft Dynamics SL 8.0 as the release date gets closer (Q1 2011).
