I recently encountered the SQL Server Message 4062 with a Dynamics SL customer running version 7.0 FP1/SP3 using SQL Authentication.  A new user was setup with access to Dynamics SL and given RDP access to the Terminal Server where Dynamics SL is installed.  When they attempted to select the SQL Server in the Find Database screen during their initial login to Dynamics SL they received  “SQL Server Message 4062, Cannot open default database. Using master database instead.”

To resolve the issue I connected to SQL Server Management studio and found that the user was also setup in SQL Server as a user via their domain account.  While reviewing the account I noticed on the General tab that the Default Database had not been specified.  I select the Master database and saved the changed.  The user was now able to login to Dynamics SL without issue.
