Troubleshooting issues caused by File Access Problems in Dynamics SL

The Microsoft Dynamics SL application is reliant on proper access rights to file shares and network drives in order to function.  In this increasingly complex and security conscious world the layers of security can sometimes cause Microsoft Dynamic SL to not have the access rights it needs to function.

Troubleshooting these types of errors can be a challenge but Microsoft has provided us with a free tool, Process Monitor, to help.

Process Monitor is a real time monitoring tool that shows file system, registry and process/thread activity.

To use Process Monitor, simply download the zip file and extract.  Double Click on the Procmon.exe file to launch Process Monitor.

Click on the magnifying glass/Capture button (Ctrl+E) to start capturing.  Launch Dynamics SL and step through until you receive the error message.  Exit Dynamics SL and stop Process Monitor by clicking on the magnifying glass/Capture button or pressing Ctrl+E.

Review the log that has been created and look for results indicating anything other than success.
